Something Missing

There’s always a big difference

between what’s in your head

and what’s on the page.

And to that there’s always sadness:

that what you create

cannot be as wonderful as what you want,

that through all those mazes

of the nerves of your brain

to the blood in your veins

and the muscles in your hands

holding the pen,

something goes missing.

And that’s life, I guess.

A movie that will never be as good

as the book,

an imitation that almost hits

the art gallery,

a love that is almost

But just because it’s different

doesn’t mean that it’s wrong.
