Corsage

Oh such is the bittersweet beauty

of a gem that dies in a day–

A perfect metaphor for a perfect scene:

Tonight’s your night! But now it’s gone,

and it’ll never once be too long.

But do not fret, my dear.

Do not let the mascara fall.

Because here, here I see glitter in your gaze

and it doesn’t come from makeup or ribbons.

It comes from the one you love,

spending three hours and thirty dollars

to just look in your eyes.

And take that magic for what it’s worth,

because it is stronger than one night,

one dance,

one bundle of roses on your wrist…

Take that magic,

and you could just make it forever.
