Against the Wind

When you walk outside

to a blustery day,

you know something is about to change.

When the morning air is fresh

and the sky sounds like

a marching band,

or waves crashing on a Carolina beach,

you know that they can only take you

forward.

When your hair bands can’t contain

the wind’s excited frenzy,

and it pulls the locks around your face

until you stand

in zero gravity–

pushed around by nature’s forces

yet still held by something, in your feet,

in your heart,

When you stand out in that stormy air

and when you don’t care…

.

That is when you know you can fly.
