A Study of Haikus

My English teacher

says that there is a science

to these syllables.

Every word means more

than what I can write alone

and leaves more footprints.

Beach sand and summers;

these footsteps behind my own

say I’m not lonely.

In fact, so many

poets have once stepped along,

breaking up the rocks.

Here, my pebbled beach

is built up by others; they

say the words for me.
