Growing Young

Sometimes,

you can’t help but be a little kid.

Sometimes you will pretend that the floor is lava

because the world can burn you so easily.

Sometimes you will talk to your imaginary friends

because they will listen more than the real ones.

Sometimes you will dress up for Halloween

because life is always about hiding.

Sometimes you will cry in your mother’s arms

because someday others will cry in yours.

Everyday you’ll grow more and more

until your stuffed animals don’t fit on your bed

and black olive rings won’t fit on your fingers,

but sometimes you just have to go backwards.

Because really,

we learn the most about life when we are little,

and I’m surprised how much some people forget.
