Assassins (Loveless, Painless)

The cars stop at signs with headlights

and they see me and they know

that this street’s filled with assassins

and I’ll be the first to go.

They’ve got red beams, darts, and arrows

drawing circles on my heart.

They’ve got raincoats black and bloody

but they don’t know where to start

’cause this girl’s not like the others;

she’s not been in love before.

She’s got nothing here to give up

so what do we need her for?

So the rain pours songs of heartbreaks

as sweet darkness lets me go.

In this street filled with assassins,

guess I’ll be the last to know.
