To Mom

If someday when I’m older

I have children of my own,

I hope I’m as good a mother as my mom is.

I hope I teach them to be patient

and teach them to be kind,

help them make their own decisions

but learn the rules of following,

tell them it’s okay to be alone

but that they don’t have to be.

And it’s not the most desirable,

but when I wake up at 12:30 AM to a sick child

and life shows the worst that it can be,

I want to be able to give them a hug

and dry off their tears

and show life the best that it can be.
