Before You

The room is alive

with things buzzing and turning.

There’s something inside

me that’s quietly burning

as you talk about nothing,

like stories I knew

but that’s ’cause all those stories were written before you.

When my words left my tongue

like a mind on vacation.

I can still hear it run

on the radio station

because I was still lonely

and I was still blue.

Maybe that’s ’cause this story’s written before you.
