Do Not Go Gentle

“Do not go gentle into that good night…” ~ Dylan Thomas

A child cries and screams and grips

to escape the oncoming sleep

and how are we to think it wrong?

To claw for life and something more

and birthday candles on the cake

’cause we know someday we’ll be gone.

For what’s ahead in falls and trips,

I think I’ll wish to stay awake

and maybe then keep holding on.

(Also, happy birthday to my wonderful younger brother! I love you so much!)
