Today and Tomorrow

I am no longer afraid

of things that hide out in the dark.

I am no longer tempted

by the shadows of being alone.

It’s never been easy for me

to be anything besides the girl in the corner

with her headphones plugged in.

I was never a conductor of sound.

Just a listener watching

as notes too short fade too fast.

Nothing lasts forever, I’d say,

and that is of course true,

but that doesn’t mean they have to end.

Not today.

Today is the day to be alive!

To make something of yourself!

Feed the fire!

Forget the sunscreen!

And be the absolute brightest you could ever be!

What is life without a burn

whose sweet pain doesn’t hide?

I say be the burn.

Be the light,

and don’t forget that there’s someone out there who loves you.

Both today

and tomorrow.

Goodnight everyone.
